Museumaker - Hawaii Design

A prestigious national project for the Arts Council.

Museumaker

Museumaker was a national initiative by the Arts Council involving sixteen museums across the North West of England. Following a competitive pitching process, Hawaii was selected to create a blueprint for uniting the institutions involved, bringing together the historic and the contemporary.

Working with the Arts Council team, Hawaii took the approach of commissioning one outstanding designer for each of the sixteen selected museums. Each ‘museumaker’ would create a new piece of work in response to their designated museum, using its collection as a starting point. This, in turn, would not only offer new experiences for existing museum visitors, but establish and appeal to a new and younger audience.

Branding & Celebration booklet

Hawaii created a full brand kit, comprising identity, signage and printed booklet. The initiative attracted over 700,000 visitors to the museums, raising their profiles and introducing ‘traditional’ museum audiences to high quality contemporary design and craft.

Hawaii produced a publication to commemorate the Museumaker project and represent the work of the chosen artists, alongside the museums they were paired with.
